Think Like a Dog
Sit. Stay. Wait.

A Child’s Guide to Staying Safe in the Woods

When kids get lost, panic can scatter their scent, hide them from view, and make rescue harder. This engaging safety program teaches children ages 5–10 how to stay safe and be found—by thinking like a search-and-rescue dog.

Through storytelling, movement, and hands-on activities, kids learn three life-saving commands:

Sit: Stop moving. Find a safe place to sit.
Stay: Stay put. Stay visible. Trust that help is coming.
Wait: Wait with courage. Use tools. Signal smartly.

Children build their own “Wait Kits,” practice whistle signals, and explore how scent, visibility, and calm behavior help rescuers—especially K9 teams—find them faster. The curriculum blends canine wisdom with real-world SAR strategies to instill confidence, clarity, and the belief:

You are findable. You are worth finding. Help is coming.

Program Highlights

Storytime & Movement: Follow a brave SAR dog’s journey to find a lost child who remembered to “Sit. Stay. Wait.”
Hands-On Learning: Kids practice staying visible, making shelter, and using whistles like a dog’s bark.
Safety Skills: Lessons on scent, visibility, cell phone use, hydration, trail safety, and trusting your instincts.
Empowerment Tools: Each child creates a personalized Wait Kit with a poncho, whistle, name card, and more.
